Important Phone Call

A few moments ago I got a phone call. The nice lady on the other end told me her name and said she was Bob Clark's assistant, and do I have a moment, because he'd like to talk to me. Bob Clark, until last year, was the Dean of Harvard Law School; now he's just a run-of-the-mill professor with a prestigious position in his past. I had emailed his assistant asking if a reading group class he is teaching next year is open enrollment or with-instructor's-permission-only. Very mundane question (that's why I sent it to his assistant, not him).

I think this was my very first phone call (to me directly, not my boss or something) where the person calling had their assistant place the call and say "Hold for So and So." I guess that implies that I talked to someone important. But as I mentioned, Bob Clark USED to be important. Now he's mundane. But that shouldn't stop him from acting important. As soon as I get an assistant, I'll have him/her place all my calls for me and say, "Hold please for Mr. Astle." Then they'll think I'm important.

PS--he said he would let me in his class.
