Message to "Senator" Kerry

I think it's weird that my blog, when I do write in it, has so much politics, but here's another entry into the fray, keeping with the general spirit of feedback emails. I sent the following email to "Senator" John Kerry today.

Dear Office of Senator Kerry,

On February 11, I sent an email through Senator Kerry's official Senate web site. Over two months later, I have not yet received a response. I understand that the Senator has not been in the office very much lately (that's the topic of my message), but I assume the Legislative Coordinators are still working on Capitol Hill. I would appreciate a response to my message. I have copied it here, verbatim (I haven't updated the statistics I cite, though I doubt they've changed). Thank you.

Dear Senator Kerry,

As one of your current constituents, I am concerned that you are too busy trying to get a new job, and ignoring the one you already have. Since October 21, you have voted on only two of the 65 measures before
the Senate (votes 00457 and 00458 on November 24, 2003). Due to your successful campaign, I also suspect you will continue to miss most or all votes until November 2004. Do you think your boss isn't going to notice if you don't show up for work?

You are still a Senator. I refuse to vote for someone (for any office) whom I cannot trust to do the job they were elected to do. Massachusetts is entitled to the representation of TWO senators in the Senate, and you are effectively leaving us with one for an entire year. The balance of power is tight enough in the Senate right now that the loss of your vote could affect the outcome of many issues.

Please go back to work.

Sincerely,
Matthew Astle
Cambridge, MA
