Jeopardy!
I watched "Jeopardy!" yesterday for the first time in I don't know how long. And I watched it again today. There's this guy, Ken Jennings, who has now (as of today) won 30 times in a row. He broke a million dollars today. And both days he just blew the opposition away. Of course, I feel a little bit of a connection to him because he's a Utah Mormon who went to BYU.
"Jeopardy!" is the real man's trivia show. I mentioned the fact that this guy was about to win a million dollars to a co-worker today, and the response was, "They give that out in one episode of 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?'" Well, that's not true. They only have a million-dollar winner on "Millionaire" very infrequently. Most people leave with $32,000, if I remember correctly. But the real difference is that for "Jeopardy!" you have to really know your stuff. You can't sit around thinking while Regis prods you. You have to answer more than eight questions per episode. And this Ken Jennings guy, what with his quick thumb, answers almost every question on that big blue board.
You'd think Alex would get sick of him, but it seems to me he's more amused with it than anything. The question arises: do you think they're going to reinstitute their 5-game maximum at the end of this season? I really don't think so. Think of what this guy is doing to their ratings. He's been on "Good Morning America" and Letterman. He got me to watch twice when I haven't watched in years.
It's a great reality show.
