Why I hate the Lakers

I have never been fond of the Lakers. But now I dislike them more than ever. I don't know why, but the sports coverage that I regularly follow seems to be madly in love with them. That's why I wish a pox on the Lakers.

When the Pistons beat the Lakers for the championship this spring, and make them look like fools in the process, there was very little coverage about how the Pistons won; it was all about how the Lakers lost, and what will happen to them. The Pistons won with a true team game, without any true superstar. Yet it seemed we only cared about the Lakers' superstars.

Last week, I think the Atlanta Hawks hired a new coach. I say "I think" because it was a blip on the radar screen of NBA news. But when the Lakers made an offer to Coach K of Duke (don't ask me to spell his name), it was the top story for days. It was even part of my lunch conversation today. And that was for a guy who did NOT become the new coach of an NBA team. Heck, I did that.

I hope Kobe Bryant, who is so stuck on himself that teams interested in him must pay a visit to him at his home, goes off with the Clippers or someone equally miserable. I hope Shaq does get traded. I don't have anything against these guys personally (though they're certainly not the upstanding type of person like the Spurs attract); I just want their organization to founder. Maybe if the Lakers really really suck, people will stop talking about them. I'm sick of it.

Let's talk about them Jazz...
