Go Broncos!

Okay, looking at today's college football rankings, I can't help but despair. I'm glad that the BCS has tweaked its formula to rely less on computers and more on humans, but the remaining problem is that the humans are complete idiots.

Florida State lost to a 3-4 Maryland team, and now has two losses. They only dropped to #13. Miami lost to North Carolina, who was also 3-4, and Miami only drops from #3 to #10. Michigan needed three overtimes to beat my parents' alma mater Michigan State (4-3), and they move up two slots to #9.

Meanwhile, Boise State, my new favorite team other than BYU, crushed Hawaii 69-3 on Friday. And, lest they be accused of running up the score, their only points in the fourth quarter came very early on an interception return. I don't care who you are or who you're playing; it's very hard to post a score of 69-3 in just over three quarters of play. And Hawaii was 3-3 before this game (a better record than Maryland or UNC). Boise State has the longest active win streak in the country (19!) and leads the country in offense. They have demolished just about everyone they've played (with the notable exception of poor BYU).

And what happens? They don't move at all, stuck at #15. There is no way in Hades a 2-loss Florida State should be ahead of Boise State. Michigan and West Virginia are ahead of them too, and they have losses to unranked opponents. What gives?

I would not be surprised to learn that various media types and/or coaches purposely voted Boise State lower than they thought they deserved, because the BCS standings are now determined 66% by the polls, and if Boise State gets into the top 12 in the BCS standings, it'll put pressure on the BCS to let both Utah and Boise State in. And the majority of the media and coaches really don't like that idea, because they're part of the cartel.

Please oh please get rid of the BCS and set up a playoff, so teams with less tradition that happen to be better than the traditional powerhouses can prove it!

Comments:
Don't forget Texas A&M getting beat by Baylor, a perennial no-win team. A&M dropped from #14 to....#22. 'Scuse me? I agree—bring on the playoffs. The BCS has outlived its purpose.
