In a Handbasket
Yet another reason for me to continue to not own a TV.
ABC "apologized" for running a cross-promotion ad for its show "Desperate Housewives" on Monday Night Football. It featured a naked woman (but only from the rear and from the waist up!) and a football player.
I guess I just don't understand how the FCC works. They slapped CBS with a record fine for the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction," yet it seems ABC gets to slide by with an "apology." I don't believe CBS was behind Janet's escapade, yet they're still responsible. And now ABC actually planned, produced, and aired this offensive segment and they're off scot-free? I can imagine the ABC executive meeting where the idea came up. Someone said, "Yeah, but isn't nudity on a football show, like, bad?" Then another, smarter person said, "Well, yes. But after the fact, we can apologize for it, and we'll get news coverage for the ad as well. That will increase our exposure [sorry, bad pun!] for free, and we'll get even more viewers for 'Desperate Housewives.'"
And that's just what they're doing.
