One More Reason to Hate the BCS

Here's an article from this weekend's Salt Lake Tribune, explaining in detail the financial incentive Mountain West Conference teams have to throw games when they play potential BCS-buster Utah. This is just one more reason to hate the evil BCS cartel--even though I don't think anyone has thrown or would throw a game for a million dollars, it at least does put the thought into their heads. That's anticompetitive, and very bad for the sport.

I hear this article is what got the Liberty Bowl people into a tizzy, saying they wouldn't let the Utes out of their contract even if they did get selected for a BCS bowl. That's nice to say now, but I don't think that would be good PR for the Liberty Bowl. It would completely destroy the relationship with the MWC, and fans would stay away in droves (as if they already head to Memphis for New Year's Eve in droves).

Repeat after me: Play-OFF! Play-OFF! Play-OFF!

Comments:
And why on earth did Utah drop a spot to #7 this week? How can 2 teams with losses sit above Utah? I know their strength of schedule is weak, but still undefeated is undefeated. I guess when Texas loses to A&M they will drop down the chart. Utah looks great this year.

Bryan: Yeah, but if A&M loses to Texas, look for Utah to drop to #8 because their win over A&M won't look so good. And like you said, undefeated is undefeated, and no one has gone undefeated so long as those good ol' Broncos of Boise State. I don't care who you play--a 19-game win streak is next to impossible.
