Rise and Shine

This morning Shelly and I got up at 6am, drove to the Harvard-run gym in a bitterly cold drizzle, worked out, came home, ate breakfast, got ready for school/work, and read our scriptures before heading out. It's no fun to get up at 6am, but when it's 9am and you look back and think, "Wow--I've accomplished a lot today!" it's kind of cool.

I like mornings. I really do. I like the peace and quiet. I like the calm feeling I have. I like the expectation of what the day will bring, and the knowledge that there's still a lot of time left in the day to do everything. It's a very happy time for me.

Problem is, I really hate getting up. I don't enjoy mornings as often as I'd like to because I enjoy staying in bed perhaps a bit more.

When we used to get up at about 7:45 both my lovely wife and I would complain and moan and gripe about "I'm soooo tired! Why can't I stay in bed?" But this morning at 6, nary a complaint was heard. I think that's partially because the complaints were implied. It's 6am; of course you're tire and you want to be in bed. That goes with out saying. It's also partially because we were just too tired to have the energy to complain. Yeah, and then we went and spent what energy we had in a workout. What an enervating experience.
