Burning Scientific Question #1
Who discovered yeast, and how?
I mean, it had to be on accident. Somehow, some yeast got into some dude's dough, and it rose when he left it out. He was hungry, so he ate it anyway, and decided it was good. But how did he isolate the yeast? After all, it's just a little bacterium. It must have been quite a long time ago, because leaven is referenced all over the Old Testament. This one just baffles me.

Comments:
He didn't isolate the yeast. He just saved a little bit of the dough and added it in the next time he cooked. If you make sourdough or Amish friendship bread, you do the same thing. Or you can see the links here: http://www.dakotayeast.com/yeast_history.html or http://www.breadworld.com/canada/yeast/history.asp
Ok, fine. Maybe I should read your links before I go asking follow-up questions. Now my mind isn't burning anymore. Got any more burning scientific questions? Ask rcstanley!
