Creative Commons

New addition to the Blog: A Creative Commons license (see the bottom of the sidebar at left).

I've officially and legally relinquished some of my rights in the content of this website and the documents I have linked on the sidebar. From now on, you are invited to copy, redistribute, and alter my work on two conditions: 1) you give me credit, and 2) you don't sell it for money without my permission. Those are some pretty easy demands.

Truth be told, probably no one wants to copy my stuff. And if you do, you were probably already doing it without my permission. But the difference now is that you don't have to feel guilty about it anymore. Because you have my permission.

I particularly want to emphasize my hope that you will click on the link at left to "Isaiah 12: A Motet" and copy it and distribute it with abandon (just keep my name on there and don't sell it). It's a nondenominational sacred a cappella song I wrote in the fall of 2000. I sent it to quite a few music publishers last year, but didn't get a bite. So now I want you to get it out there. Give it to your ward choir director if you're Mormon, or whatever religious choir director you want if you're not. If you're a composer and you think you can make it better, by all means do so--let me know, and maybe we can sell it together!

Isn't voluntarily waiving your constitutional rights fun?
