A Different Tune

You know, I had kind of given up on the Utah Jazz. Andrei Kirilenko has missed 23 games now, and since his injury, the team that was once ranked #2 in ESPN.com's Power Rankings has fallen to its current spot at #28 (out of 30). They lost to New Orleans and Chicago at home. They were on a nine-game losing streak. Hope was gone.

And then, in their last two games, they just happened to beat first the #2 team and then the #1 team in the league. They hadn't beaten San Antonio since February 2000. Phoenix is talking about breaking the Bulls' 72-game win record. I don't know what to say. My little guys came through.

This, I suppose, illustrates one of the coolest things about sports, and also about life in general. No matter how good or bad you are, on any given night, everyone has a chance at winning or losing. If you're good, it keeps you on your toes. If you're bad, it gives you hope. Now if the Jazz can only make up lost ground and get into the playoffs, we'll sweep the #1 seed in the first round, right?

Right?
