Fancy Pants

Last night I went to dinner at the Harvard Faculty Club. I was joined by the professor of the class I'm taking this January term, the professor I'm doing research for, and her other research assistant, who is also in the class with me.

I'm not sure what point to make about my experience, but I feel that I should record the fact that it happened, even if it doesn't excite you, the reader (sorry about that). The thing that struck me the most was the high-falutin' conversation carried on between the two professors (both of whom, I might add, I really like). They discussed such things as the difference between human rights and natural rights, and the life histories of some of their common professors at Chicago Law School. My current prof, who lives in Salt Lake, wasn't even impressed by the fact that I'm from there. In fact, he proceeded to insult Provo in class today (I didn't tell him anything about my relationship with Provo, so I guess he thought that I, as a Salt Laker, might agree with him (or he didn't care)).

I will tell you one thing: the veal medallions entree I had was listed on the menu at $48. Hoo-dogie! And it wasn't even all that good. Thank heavens the law school paid for my meal. You know, after this summer at the law firm, I've eaten at a lot more nice restaurants in the past year than ever before and I can tell you one thing about them: they're almost always not worth it. Given a choice between a three-course meal at the Harvard Faculty Club (price: around $80-90 per head) and the all-you-can-eat pizza-pasta-and-salad special at Pizzeria Uno (price: $7 per head), I'll take the pizza every single time.
