Truck Pull
Ever noticed how more and more truck commercials these days focus on how much the truck can tow? I have, and I don't even own a TV. There's the one where they hook the truck up to another make's truck and they have a tug-of-war. There's the one where the waitress in the trailer diner says she'd like to go to California, but she can't leave "all this," so her customer promptly hooks her place of business up to his pickup and takes it all to California. But my favorite is the one where the truck pulls an aircraft carrier. Now that's a strong truck!
I wonder why ad execs think this kind of message appeals to truck buyers. I mean, the biggest, heaviest thing a normal truck owner is ever going to need to tow is a big recreational boat, or maybe a big horse trailer or something. Have you ever heard of anyone complaining that their truck wasn't strong enough to tow what it was that needed to be towed? Aren't most trucks well-equipped to handle all everyday towing jobs? Doesn't the government have ways of transporting naval vessels other than hooking them up to some dude's Chevy?
I dunno. Maybe I've been on the east coast too long, and lost touch with my western, truck-loving roots.
