This is Nuts!

I am a crunchy peanut butter type of person. I like to feel the nuts between my teeth; it gives substance to my PBJ.

I understand that there are people who prefer creamy peanut butter. They like it to melt in their mouth or whatever--I don't know. They have the right to eat creamy peanut butter, and I don't try to deny them that.

But I don't get the same respect from the New England Grocery Store Powers That Be. Since I moved here, I have never once found a container of crunchy peanut butter in a grocery store that is equal in size to the largest available container of creamy. Maybe creamy is indeed overall more popular around here. That's fine. Give it more shelf space. Load up on creamy if that's what your customers are buying. But DON'T refuse to sell an equivalent volume of crunchy peanut butter.

Take, for example, my cupboard. Shelly likes creamy, I like crunchy, so we buy a jar of each. In the cupboard right now is my 16 oz. jar of crunchy, and a 64 oz. jar of creamy. She gets four times the peanut butter in her jar.

The big problem is that, as is the case with all foodstuffs, the larger the container you buy, the cheaper the peanut butter is per unit. Why oh why am I forced to pay more for my peanut butter simply because I like nuts in it?!

Comments:
I had to laugh when Jenni and I were in Costco last night. There in the aisle were two pallets of Jif peanut butter. On the left, 2 shrink wrapped 32 oz jars of Jif Creamy. On the right, 2 shrink wrapped 32 oz jars of Jif Crunchy. Equality at its finest. But then I looked at the price. Jif Crunchy was 5 cents CHEAPER! So feel better Matt, your paying less for Crunchy (at least in California).

Russ, I don't need your condolences. If you recall, I don't live in California. I live in the bubble that is Massachusetts. I can't get Granny Bread, I can't get a decent-sized crunchy peanut butter jar, and people will laugh at me if I ask for fry sauce. Gosh, maybe I do need to move back west. I'm dyin' here!
