Beware!
Today is the Ides of March. According to Wikipedia, ides are simply special marked days in the middle (either the 13th or the 15th, depending on the month) of the month. Romans counted their days not numerically throughout the month, but rather either days before the nones of the month (the other marked day, either the 5th or the 7th, depending on the day), days before the ides, and days before the kalends (the beginning) of the next month. Crazy.
I think it's sad that just because Julius Caesar was killed 2049 years ago today, we remember the ides of March, but we don't remember the ides of any other months, or the nones or kalends of any month. Tomorrow, go around saying that it's 16 days (they counted inclusively) before the kalends of April, and people will rush you to a mental institution.
