Mormons in DC
I don't have much to say about this, but I found this article from the Salt Lake Tribune about the growing LDS community in Washington, DC interesting. And not just because I'm going to be moving there. I think the main drawback to the article is how it focuses solely on Mormons in political or government positions. There are a lot of leading Mormons in other jobs in DC. I'll soon be one of them!
My one nitpick: Why is the Salt Lake Tribune explaining to its readers what a stake is ("like a diocese")? As a born and bred Salt Laker, my response is: "What's a diocese? I guess it's like a stake."

Comments:
It's not that much of a surprise, actually. The Trib goes out of its way to avoid being like the Deseret News or anything else related to the LDS church.
Yeah, and that's what I don't like about the Trib. They either don't know their audience, or (more likely) they pretend their audience is different than it is. I mean really--how many Salt Lakers are less likely to know what a stake is than a diocese? How many Catholics are even in Salt Lake?
The Trib goes out of its way to not be Mormon-y, that's for sure. The problem, though, is that Salt Lake IS very Mormon-y. And this was an article ABOUT Mormons--why would a Catholic Salt Laker care about Mormons in DC?
That's why I read the Deseret News far more often than the Trib. They may have a little too much of a pro-LDS slant, but at least they don't pretend the LDS church isn't a big cultural presence in Utah.
