Realtor for Life
When we closed on our house last week, we received a packet of little welcome-to-our-new-home cards from our real estate agent. I'm not sure what they're really supposed to be for, but one thing about them really intrigued me. They list the realtor's name, and then say, "Your realtor for life."
I'm puzzled by what this phrase means. It could be that he is trying to say that 1) he is our realtor for as long as we live, 2) he is planning to be a realtor for the rest of his life, or 3) he opposes abortion.
I doubt Option 1 is correct. He's already well into middle age, and we're just twenty-somethings. As much as we liked him, he won't be around toward the end of our lives. And besides, what if we decide to move somewhere else? This guy only works in northern Virginia. Sure, he could help us sell the house we just bought, but he can't help us buy one out west. So he's obviously not claiming to be our realtor for the rest of our lives.
But Option 2 isn't much better. Why would he commit never to change professions on a card given to us at a closing? He's changed professions before--what's stopping him from doing it again? It's a free country. Not very satisfying.
So it must be Option 3. He's "for life," that is, anti-abortion. He's chosen to make a political/values statement on these cards now that the deal is done. It seems an odd thing to do, but I suppose you should help out the cause any way you can.
