Legacy Law Foundation

Last night, Shelly and I went to a reception hosted by the Legacy Law Foundation, a relatively new nonprofit that I predict will become more and more a factor in our lives.

The Legacy Law Foundation is a lobbying organization/activist group/public interest law firm that is dedicated to actively promoting the values set out in the LDS Church's "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." Today, in fact, marks the 10th anniversary of that document. LLF is a well-organized national group that is pushing pro-family measures with an LDS slant in various arenas, including anti-pornography, cultural decency, and the protection of traditional marriage. Another way of putting it (and this is how I perceived the organization was posturing itself last night) is that LLF is the anti-ACLU.

So here's a little plug for it. I know I have a lot of LDS readers. I encourage each one of you to visit LLF's website, and consider becoming a member (the organization's main funding objective, modeled after that of the ACLU, is to sign up 50,000 members at $20 each, for a $1 million budget). Those of you who are also lawyers or politicians or are otherwise civically minded, I encourage you to get involved in some other way. There's certainly a lot you can do, and I think this organization is going to do some good in the world. I may have a lot more to say about LLF in the near future.
