My Bracket

It's March Madness time again, and that means that for me, it's time to start paying attention to college basketball.

It's weird, my relationship with college basketball. During the regular season, I have a really, really hard time caring about it. But when March Madness hits, I'm as freakish as the next guy.

I've always said that the reason I really follow only college football and NBA basketball closely is that in those two sports, I have a clear-cut favorite team. I cheer for BYU football and the Utah Jazz. I always will. Everything about what I think about these two sports is related to what will help my team (ie, I cheer against the BCS, and right now I'm cheering hard against the Hornets, Kings, and Lakers (though I always cheer against the Lakers)).

I have no idea why the same principle doesn't apply to college basketball. Obviously, my clear-cut favorite team is BYU. Deep down inside I want them to win. (Have you filled out your NIT bracket?) But I still can't even get myself to care about BYU basketball--even when they play Utah. Therefore, I can't get myself excited about college basketball.

The only reason I get really excited about the tournament is because I fill out a bracket and therefore I have something to cheer for. Also, I need to beat Shelly this year (she beat me last year). That's about all I can say. It's a lame way to do it, but that's what happens to me. Now you know.

For the record, my Final Four are: Duke, UNC, Gonzaga, and Ohio State, with Gonzaga beating Ohio State in the championship. Long shot, I know. But at least I have something to cheer for.

Comments:
Oh, and I would like to point out that, at the time of this writing, although Gonzaga is losing to Xavier at the half, I am all alone atop the 26-person standings in the bracket pool I entered. Fear my bracketology.

It should be pointed out that Matt has lost to me in the bracket warfare for the past TWO years, not only last year.
