Has It Really Come To This?
I still love Shelly a lot, and she loves me. But last night we slept in separate beds, in separate rooms.
In the morning, Shelly was very grateful for the concern I'd shown her, and we're anxious to try our new sleeping arrangement again.
See, Baby Ellie is still having a lot of trouble sleeping, and that's made both me and Shelly very sleep-deprived over the last month or two. So last night we decided that I would take total responsibility for Ellie, manning the upstairs floor with the two bedrooms by myself, while Shelly slept on the futon couch in the basement. We went to bed extra early in hopes of taking full advantage of the arrangement.
I got up four times during the night with the baby. Shelly got ten and a half uninterrupted hours of sleep.
Sooner or later, we're going to have to teach this kid that she really CAN go for more than three hours without eating, and that if she stops yelling and squirming, she might fall asleep on her own.
But in the meantime, I'm looking forward to tonight, when Shelly will look me lovingly in the eyes and say, "Matt, you're sleeping on the couch tonight."
