New Blood
I'm not sure if I'm going to get to watch much of the NBA playoffs tonight, but I'm paying close attention to both of the games. The Spurs and the Mavericks, and the Pistons and the Cavaliers are both playing their Game 6s. In each case, the underdog team (Mavs and Cavs) is up 3-2 and would close out the series with a win. I'm cheering for the underdog in each case, and I'll tell you why. In the last 19 years, only 5 different NBA teams have won the championship (Spurs, Pistons, Lakers, Bulls, Rockets*). Add two more teams to the list (Celtics, 76ers) and you can go all the way back to the 1979-80 season. There just needs to be more diversity in NBA champions, what with 30 teams in the league now. So although I'm normally fairly positive toward the Spurs, I'm cheering for their demise. And although I'm not a LeBron-worshipper, I'm cheering for him to win. Because when the Spurs and Pistons are gone, it will mean that this year's champion will win it all for the first time in franchise history.
And of course, as an underdog-lover, who I'd really like to see win are the Clippers.
* And really, the Rockets' two championships don't count, because those were the years Michael Jordan was playing baseball.

Comments:
Well, although Lebron didn't make it - it was close most of the way, hopefully Dirk will overcome.
We shall see.
