Requiem for the Jazz

Well, I didn't expect it to last as long as it did, so I am quite happy. The Utah Jazz were eliminated from the playoffs last night by the superior San Antonio Spurs, and now I won't feel the need to plop myself in front of the TV for a couple of hours every other day. I'm proud of my team for making it this far, and it does give me hope for the future, but I must say that in a way I sort of thought this was our chance. There are three really dominant teams in the West (other than the Jazz, of course), with another two likely to rise soon because of their luck in the draft lottery last week. The Jazz are young and getting better, but when else will they have the chance to make it to the Finals by only going through one of these tough teams? Of course, when the going got tough, the Jazz stopped playing well. I'm hoping for a couple of good offseason improvements, a better showing in the regular season next year, and hopefully a path to the Finals that doesn't go through San Antonio.* Most of all, I'm hoping that the respect they garnered in this playoff run will translate to a few more nationally televised games. I guess those are the breaks when you root for your hometown team but don't live in your hometown anymore. Wizards-Jazz Finals in 2008, anyone?

* This is not an unreasonable request for next year, as the Spurs only win championships in odd-numbered years.

Comments:
Just don't think about the possibility of Deron bailing out next year and you're outlook will stay warm and fuzzy :P
