More Bus!

The first meaningful word* Ellie ever said was "car." It was in the parking lot of the BWI airport as we were riding the shuttle bus to return to our car from our Christmas vaction last December. She looked out the window of the bus, pointed at a car, and said with the thick New England accent she must have absorbed in utero, "Cah."

She has a lot more words now (we've lost track of how many). But cars are still one of her favorite things. In fact, the only thing that might get her more excited than a car is a bus. Whenever Ellie goes outside, it's "Car, car, more car. Bus. More bus. Car." We recently drove to and from New York City on a highway choked with cars and buses. We were afraid Ellie wasn't going to be too pleasant for the 4-5 hour drive each way. But seeing all those buses practically made her giddy with excitement. Whenever she sees a bus, she wants to see more of them. Fortunately for her, near our house is an elementary school that keeps four school buses in the parking lot during most of the day. The high point of any drive is when we pass by that school, because there she finally sees "more bus."

One day we need to take her on a bus. I would say that she'd wet herself with glee if we did, but I don't know if that counts if you're still in diapers anyway. I don't think she's been in a bus since that BWI shuttle bus that started it all.

* She said "mama" earlier, but it didn't really mean anything to her; it was just a noise she could make.
