Turning Thirty Again

Today I'm "turning thirty again," as Shelly puts it. And I get to spend the whole day at work, doing normal things. I had a peanut butter sandwich and some on-their-way-out grapes for lunch. Nobody at work except the associate management staff (who sent me a colorful email) seems to know it's my birthday, but even if they did, everyone I work with is at trial today. Tonight, my girls and I are going to go to Bugsy's in Old Town Alexandria for some yummy pizza.*

Turning 31 really isn't that big of a deal, though. I was far more traumatized, as recorded in a recent post, by the 10-year anniversary of the end of my mission, which happened last week. in fact, the most depressing thing about turning 31 today is the fact that I have a red, painful zit on the end of my nose today. My dad apparently lied to me when he told my pimply-faced teenage self that I would be rid of acne by the time I got home from my mission. Ten years later, it still hasn't happened. So I guess I should feel young!

* Technically, Shelly and Ellie are just substituting for the person who I should be going to Bugsy's with: my sister-in-law Lissa. Every August since 2003 Lissa and I have gone on a Bugsy's date in August. The last couple of times Shelly (and then Ellie too) has tagged along as our third wheel, but it's really a Matt-and-Lissa thing. She'll be missed tonight, the first time in five years she hasn't been able to make it. Stupid grad school in California. She'd better be here next year.

Comments:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD BOY! Bugsy's is my favorite pizza place in the world - maybe I should crash your dinner tonight! :)
