A Night At the Improv
Yesterday afternoon the whole family was driving in the car. Out of nowhere, Ellie starts singing the Spider-man theme song: "Spider-man! Spider-man! Does whatever a spider can!" Best of all, she had the tune down pat. I laughed and asked Shelly where the heck she learned that. Proudly, Shelly responded, "I taught it to her!"
Not to be outdone, I decided to expand Ellie's repertoire with the Simpsons' version. So I taught her "Spider-pig! Spider-pig! Does whatever a Spider-pig does! Can he swing from a web? No he can't, he's just a pig. Look out! Here comes the Spider-pig!"
Ellie immediately started singing the Spider-pig version, much to Shelly's annoyance. But then the fun started as Ellie realized she could change the words to the song as she pleased.
"Spider-cow! Spider-cow! Have you met the Spider-cow?"
Our laughter encouraged her.
"Spider-Daddy! Spider-Daddy!"
"Spider-duck! Spider-duck!"
"Spider-baby! Spider-baby!"
"Spider-mama! Spider-mama!"
And my favorite, because it rhymes with the original: "Spider-Ann! Spider-Ann!"
All I can say is, look out.
