Why I Love My Seeds
This weekend, my dad was in town on business. So we enjoyed having some more grandpa time, and he took lots of pictures of sweet Ellie.
My dad and I have a special relationship. That is to say, a special nomenclature.
I call my dad "Seeds."
Let me tell you why. When I was quite little--maybe 7 or 8, I don't remember--for some reason I came up with the following word association:
Dad=Pop
Pop=> Poppy
Poppy=> Poppy Seeds
Poppy Seeds=>Seeds
Simple, eh? So I began calling my pop Seeds. For a short while there, he also called me "Son-flower Seeds" but that never really stuck. Nowadays, I just call him Seeds reflexively. I don't even think about it, and when uninformed people hear me do it, eyebrows are universally raised.
None of my brothers does it very much. A little. But I'm the one who came up with the name, so I'm also the one who still uses it consistently.
Make fun if you must. But me and my Seeds are so used to it by now that you're not going to change things.
