Daddy's Time
Last night at about 11:00 Ellie started coughing a lot in her bed. She'd been doing this a lot lately, so Shelly and I decided it would be a good idea to give her some cough medicine so she could sleep better. I volunteered for the job.
I opened her door, and though it creaked, it didn't wake her (neither had the coughing, apparently). I found the medicine, and then gently rubbed her back to wake her up. She opened her eyes but didn't move. I slowly picked her up, sat down in the chair beside her crib, and removed her binkie. I gave her the medicine from a little dropper, and reinserted the binkie in her tired little mouth. She instantly fell back to sleep. So I sat there for a few minutes, just holding my sleeping baby.
Ever since we taught Ellie to fall asleep on her own in her crib (the best parenting move we've ever made), she hasn't been able to fall asleep anywhere else, including in our arms. So it was a very special moment with just me and her in the dark. Usually she squirms and wants to do something when you're holding her, but when she's asleep, she's so cuddly and quiet. I wanted never to put her down.

Comments:
Kiss her goodnight, lay her down in her crib, and close the door. It took only a couple of nights of crying for about 30-45 minutes till she got the hang of it.
