The Baby and the Bosch

Be careful what you wish for. Throughout Ellie's life, she hasn't been a really snuggly baby. She prefers to squirm and maintain her independence than sit on her parents' laps quietly while we hold her. It's not a big deal, but from time to time over the course of the last two years, Shelly and I have said that we hope our next baby is a snuggler.

Enter Annie. Annie doesn't like to be put down. It's not so much that she snuggles (at least not yet), but she does insist upon being held all the time, or else she has a screaming fit. I am writing this right now with Annie on my lap (on the Boppy pillow, so I can "hold" her and still use both hands to type). We set her in the swing to sit down to eat dinner, and she screams. We put her on the floor for just a second to attend to some emergency Ellie has caused, and she screams. We've gotten very used to the sound of Annie screaming. We love to hold her, but you just can't hold a baby every moment of every day of the week. Sometimes you have to put her down and wish she would just fall alseep on her own.

But never fear: we have discovered the miracle cure. One afternoon Shelly was making some cookies with Ellie and had to put Annie in the swing. Annie, true to form, protested. But as soon as Shelly turned on the Bosch mixer, Annie calmed down immediately and went to sleep.

A day or two later, I tried the same thing. I was wishing she would just go to sleep where I had set her. So I pulled out the Bosch and turned it on. Seriously, within 5 seconds her screaming stopped, and she was fast asleep in less than a minute. We've done it a couple of times now and it never fails.

Who knows? Maybe Annie will grow up to have her own show on the Food Network.

Comments:
I don't know, she might fall asleep on the set as soon as the mixer gets going...might not be soo good for the ratings. :)

Cute story...will keep that in mind when that day comes for us. Whatever works!

Merry Christmas!
